Located deep in Cat Ba National Park (Cat Hai island district, Hai Phong City), Viet Hai ancient fishing village always attracts tourists to explore because of its poetic beauty and peace.
Viet Hai is a commune in the Cat Ba archipelago, Cat Hai district, located far from the center of Cat Ba town. Viet Hai commune has a total natural area of 6,485.08 hectares, the East borders Quang Ninh province, the Northwest borders Gia Luan commune, the South borders Cat Ba town, the Southwest borders Tran Chau commune (also in Cat Hai district). ). Viet Hai commune currently has 87 households with 292 people.
Compared to many other fishing villages, Viet Hai fishing village has a smaller area. However, this place possesses a very rich ecosystem including mountains and sea forests. Because it is located deep in Cat Ba National Park, Viet Hai fishing village is also known as “the island within the island”.
According to local people, Viet Hai fishing village is called an ancient village because it has a long history of more than 100 years. Previously, when fishermen going fishing on Lan Ha Bay encountered a big storm, they took refuge in a fishing village and suddenly discovered a source of fresh water. They settled here and from then on, the ancient fishing village of Viet Hai was gradually built and formed.
At Viet Hai fishing village, the natural scenery appears like a charming landscape painting. There are still houses with thatched roofs, walls built of earth or wood, wood-burning kitchens, and spacious grass fields.
Mr. Vu Phi Hung – Secretary, Chairman of Viet Hai Commune People’s Committee said: Located about 10km from the center of Cat Ba town, however, currently there is no road to drive directly into Viet Hai fishing village. Therefore, tourists who want to enjoy the peaceful scenery of Viet Hai fishing village can travel by boat or boat. During rough sea days, boats cannot move, visitors can travel by road through Cat Ba National Park. This road is about 12km long.
As a favorite destination for foreign tourists, people here hope that Viet Hai ancient fishing village will receive more worthy investment to exploit and serve tourists more professionally.
